Abstract

The total neutron cross-section in· the keV neutron energies provides 1 bl dvauaeata for reactor design brnucleoynthesis of elements, and a better the neuttGn interactiQn wltn nuclei.rand 1 n The objectives of the present work were to cover a basic nuclear physics study of 335+n reaction and a thorough.335 t· br>resonances ln +n reac lon are part is an accurate determination of the parameters of the 292.4-eV resonance of 9lZr, and the 30l.3-eV resonance of 96Zr.
vn 33S (n = 0.03545 ~toms/b.rn ).
sets for natural Zr were collected in four experiments for
four different thicknesses (n = 0.001073, 0.002143 , 0.004168, and 0.00701 atoms / barn). These transmission measurements have been carried out for 33S and Zr at room
temperature, except one experiment of Zr done at liquid nitrogen temperature. The 80-meter flight path station of
ORELA was used with an NE-110 proton recoil detector for 33S measurements in the energy range 0.01-2.0 MeV, and a 6Li-glass scientillation detector for Zr measurements in
the energy range 0.1 - 20.0 keV. Three filters were in-
serted in the neutron beam to reduce radiation backgrounds
due to gamma-ray and the low energy neutron flux. These

were 0.3 gm/cm of B, 0.7l-cm of U, and O.62-cm Pb.
Thvee other samples were used in Zr measurements to deter-
mine anu correct for the background. These were 7.62-cm 238
thick of polyethylene, 0.73-cm thick U sample, and a
ions were then be made to the observed counts in each channel for the dead time losses. Also, the background subtraction.
