Abstract Soft contact lenses are gaining popularity among users and pracntioners . It is always subjected to continious development inorder to avoid its complications, particularly deposits which lead to various ocular changes and lens spoilage. There are four main groups lead to lens spoilage. Organic, non organic and mixed deposits together with physical defects and manufacturing errors. Organic deposits are proteins , lipids, mucin, bacteria, fungus and amoebae. Inorganic deposits are calcium, mercurial deposits , iron rust and environmental pollutants. physical defects such as material impurity, holes, tears and scratches all these factors lead to lens spoilage, and if the lens is left on patients eye, it can cause ocular complications such as allergic reactions, Giant papillary conjunctivitis, keratitis and corneal ulcers. Proper lens cleaning and disinfection is very essential in preventing deposits and lens spoilage , as using the cleaning solutions regularly together with regular follow up, limits ocular complications and consequently lens changes and damages. Recently new drugs are found to remove already present deposits. Also a new lens material is invented which repel protein deposition. The presence of the new cleaning solution (all in one) mcreases the compliance of the patients and helping in prevention and control of lens spoilage |
