Abstract

One of the major problems of avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is the
frequent emergence of new variants. In the present study, 205 suspected
farms from broilers and layers were collected during January to August 2012
from 19 governorates all over Egypt these farms showed respiratory signs.
There were 130/205 (about 63.4%) of suspected farms were positive for IBV
with real time RT-PCR. Thirteen samples were selected from 130 IBV
positive samples. The samples were inoculated in specific pathogen free
(SPF) embryos for three blind successive passages and the hypervariable
region of spike protein (SP1) was amplified and sequenced to study the
genetic diversity between viruses. The phylogenetic analysis was carried out
between the selected 13 isolates and other IBV from the Middle East. Eleven
out of the thirteen inoculums had close relationship with the Israeli variant
(IS/885) reached up to 89.9%. The other two inoculums had close
relationship with, CR/88121 and 4/91 viruses with identities 95% and 96%;
respectively.
