Abstract

The present study was conducted on 40 patients having
active TB treated at Menof chest hospital from 1/6/2011 till
1/6/2012 and 40 age and sex matched healthy control .
The inclusion criteria are:
All Patients had confirmed diagnosis as TB .
Some Patients will be excluded for the following reasons:
past history of brucellosis and exposure to domestic animals or their
products.
They were classified into 2 groups:
Group 1: 40 patients with active TB.
Group 2: 40 age and sex matched healthy control.
All groups were subjected to the following :-
1-Full history to record relevant information such as the clinical history,
with stress on past history of brucellosis or exposure to domestic
animals or their products
2-Blood tests :ESR , C-reactive protein and complete blood count.
3-Blood chemistry involving random blood glucose , blood urea,
serum creatinine, SGPT,SGOT, serum bilirubin.
4- Anti-Brucella IgG by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
(ELISA) and tubal agglutination method .
5- PCR for brucella for those who have positive anti-Brucella
IgG by ELISA and/or tubal agglutination method .
The results were statistically analyzed and illustrated in tables and
figures.
We found that :
• 82.5 % presented with cough , 80% presented with Fever , 75 %
presented with Expectoration ,70 % presented with Hemoptysis, 57 %
presented with night sweating ,50 % presented with Loss of appetite ,
45% presented with loss of weight and 4٥% presented with chest pain .
• There were statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in degree of temperature while there were no statistically
significant difference between the 2 studied groups in pulse, blood
pressure, and respiratory rate.
• There were statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in ESR .
• 77% of TB patients had ESR above 100 while no one of control patients
had ESR above 100 .
• There were no statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in blood urea and serum creatinine levels.
• There were no statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in SGPT and SGOT levels.
• There were high statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in serum albumin while there were no statistically significant
difference between the 2 studied groups in RBS.
• There were high statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in Hb % , platelets count and WBCs count
• There were high statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in esinophile count, segmented neutrophiles count, lymphocytes
count and monocytes count.while there were no statistically significant
difference between the 2 studied groups in basophiles count and staff
neutrophiles count.
• There were no statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in presence of false positive brucellosis by ELIZA.
• There were no statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in presence of false positive brucellosis by tubal agglutination
method.
• There were no statistically significant difference between the 2 studied
groups in results obtained by brucella ELIZA and tubal agglutination
methods.
