Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the carotid intima-media thickness by B-mode ultrasonography and arterial flow indexes by doppler in healthy egyptian children. We evaluated the changes in c. IMT and its relation to clinical parameters in 30 healthy children (16 boys and 14 girls) Egyptian children by B-mode ultrasonography The results of this study provided reference values of c. IMT was (0.4±0.1) in either sex. c. IMT was positively correlated with age in boys but not with girls. c. IMT was positively correlated with height in boys but not with girls.Cardiovascular risk factors such as BMI and body fat were associated with IMT in the female study population. Of particular importance, especially in cardiovascular health prevention is the positive correlation between IMT and systolic blood pressure for both sexes. Systolic blood pressure as the main predictor of IMT should be given careful attention in boys and should be addressed further in future studies.PI had non-significant differences when compared between boys and girls. RI had non-significant differences were noted between boys and girls.
