Abstract This investingantion presents an ecophsiological study on two taxa namely; Solanum nigrum and Withania somnifera belonging to family Solanaceae. These plants attracted the attention due to their economic, medicinal and industrial uses. Also, they are common weeds growing in the Nile Delta. The present study concerning the botanical aspects of the studied species to contribute more knowledge about their morphological, taxonomical, anatomical characters and geographical distribution. The ecological study includes description of several representative stands of their communities. For each type the analytical, synthetic and environmental characteristics are given. The physiological investigations deal with the primary metabolic products, the nutritive value and quantitative estimation of protein – amino acids in Solanum nigrum shoot. The qualitative estimation of secondary metabolites was also carried out. The antibacterial activity of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of the two plants had been investigated. |
