Abstract O ur findings suggest that vanin-1 may contribute to the pathogenesis of ITP, indicating that vanin-1 is an important target for further investigation. Vanin-1 is a potentially important molecule that acts as an oxidative stress response gene that is leads to creation of new therapeutic approaches and medications. Vanin-1 may be used as blood marker that can distinguish ITP from other causes of thrombocytopenia as healthy individual has low expression of vanin-1 Large cohorts in healthy controls, adult patients with ITP, and possibly in pediatric patients with ITP as well as in patients with thrombocytopenia from other causes will demonstrate the clinical benefit of Vanin-1. Such studies will advance understanding of ITP pathophysiology and will clarify the role of vanin-1 in risk stratifying patients, which is especially important in light of the introduction of new therapeutic agents. |
