Abstract

Infertility is a common clinical problem. It affects 13% to 15% of reproductive aged couples. Among infertility treatment methods, Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is one of the oldest methods. It is often used as an empirical treatment for a broad range of profertility indications. It is the first therapeutic step in assisted reproductive techniques and is especially appropriate for cases with mild male factor infertility, anovulation, endometriosis with at least one patent tube, and unexplained infertility.
The aim of our study was to evaluate the premature LH surge, estradiol level on the day of HCG, the ovulation rate by midlutael progesterone level and the pregnancy rate.
It was conducted on 40 random patients complaining of infertility. Written informed consent was taken from all patients involved in the study or their relatives. It was conducted on two groups: Group I (n=20): patients received a daily dose of 75 IU highly purified HMG starting on day 3 of the cycle. Group II (n=20): patients received a daily dose of 75 IU highly purified HMG starting on day 3 till day 6 of the cycle, with the addition of a daily oral dose of 150 mg clomiphene citrate starting from day 6.
All the patients were examined and evaluated on the second day of menstrual cycle and the following was carried out: complete history taking, complete general and gynecological examination and basal hormonal level evaluation.
The results can be summarized as follows:
- All the patients’ ages ranged between (20 and 35 years). In group I (Control
group) ranged 20-35 with mean value 26.40±3.92 and in group II (Study group) ranged 23-35 with mean value 29.80±3.96. There was statistical significant difference between two studied groups regarding age.
