Abstract

Besides the factors inherent to the physical properties of acrylic resin, technical procedures and the anatomical conditions of the patient’s mouth have been demonstrated previously in the literature, and it would be desirable to verify the effect of commercial acrylic resins on denture base adaptation. Thus, this study was carried out on 42 denture bases (21 denture bases for each palatal arch form) to compare the dimensional changes of denture bases processed with ProBase Hot to those processed by conventional heat cure acrylic resin (Acrostone) and to verify their retention to oral tissues. For this study, 21 waxed denture bases were prepared for each examined palatine arch form (U and V- shaped palatine arch forms). A stainless steel wire loop was placed at a vertical direction in the marked geometric center of each waxed denture base. Waxed denture bases were flasked, packed and then processed to obtain 7 denture bases of U-shaped vault and 7 denture bases of Vshaped vaults for each of: ProBase Hot, long cured Acrostone, and short cured Acrostone. Immediately after decasting, the dentures were repositioned on their
corresponding casts to measure the amount of gap formed between denture base.
