المستخلص This study aimed to : The statistical population census data are used as basis to generate life tables. Those tables are used to measure life possibilities at each age. They are used as a scientific and practical tool to estimate the population in the future on which the majority of the population and demographic studies are built. According to the length of the age group, life tables can be divided into two types: •Complete life table•Abridged life tables. Both types aim to determine the (demographic) and (in-between differences) in death rates within the age groups. According to the source of data requited for designing the tables, life tables may also be divided into two types: •First type is based on general population statistics, in particular, population censuses, biostatistics which is called tables of national life.•Second type depends on the accumulated statistics at the insurance companies about their clients for extended periods of time that allow for applying the Law of large numbers, called the selected tables or life tables. It must be noted that all data of life tables (both types) are not derived from statistical data, except mortality probabilities. This study has focused on national life tables based on the population census of the Republic of Yemen. It is observed that tables based on population statistics which show data for each age or that contain the age groups only, show many errors in statistical data of population, namely:•Lack of commitment to the exact definition of death (in bio statistics).Errors due to non-inclusive data, and errors resulted from inaccuracies(temporally and spatially) in distribution of deaths (population censuses).•Other errors related to data of ages. |
