Abstract The properties of Schiff bases and hydrazones are of interest owing to their coordination properties, diverse applications and due to their biological activities. The hydrazones derivatives are used as fungicides and in the treatment of diseases such as tuberculosis, leprosy, and mental disorders. The complexes of various hydrazones are reported to act as inhibitors of enzymes. Schiff base metal complexes have industrial, antibacterial, anticancer, and herbicidal applications. Schiff base hydrazones are widely used also in analytical chemistry as a selective metal extracting agent as well as in spectroscopic determination of certain transition metals. So, the work in this Thesis is focused on study the acid– base and coordination properties of some hydrazone derivatives of oxamic acid, oxamic hydrazide and thiocarbohydrazide in order to evaluate the possibility of using them as metallochromic or chromophoric indicators and/or analytical reagents in determination of certain transition metals. |
