Abstract

This study was conducted on the wells operating in the area of Abu Tartur in Western desert , Many studies on chemical and physical properties groundwater in the aquifer , and for the water used in the washing process of phosphatic rocks , the groundwater contain small amount of uranium according to the nature of surrounded area. Hydrochemical of the wells is evident that the formation of water is dominated by calcium cation by up to 50 % in some wells. The percentage of sodium cation to 70% in other, either chloride ion is the dominate up to 90 % , Four wells locate in the good water class according and wells number 9 locate in moderate water class. Heavy metal analysis found that wells no. 2 and no. 5 contain a higher concentration of selenium more than allowed by the World Health Organization standards. Cadmium and Lead concentration is exceed the allowable limit of WHO in all wells. Environmental isotopes such as Oxygen and Hydrogen, which explained that there is a many sources to feed the aquifer either by precipitation or the inflow from other sources. Inflow process of studied aquifer combined with evaporation, which enrich water with isotopes. Uranium and thorium concentrations in wells and raw material Factory inflows and outflows contain a high of more than permitted in the WHO. Preconcentration and solvent sublation has been studied for the separation and determination of trace uranium (VI) in various spiked water samples. A strongly red colored anionic [UO2(Ar-III)]2- complex was formed at pH 1.0 upon adding arsenazo III (Ar-III) to the sample solution. Tri n-octyl amine (TOA) was added in the solution to form the (TOA)2[UO2(Ar-III)] ion pair, and an oleic acid (HOL) surfactant was added.
