Abstract Powersystemprotectionisanimportantissuethatshouldbehandledin ordertokeeptheelectricalpowersystem dependability,securityand reliability.Inrecentyears,DiscreteWaveletTransforms(DWTs)have beenwidelyacknowledgedasoneofthemostpromisingdevelopmentsin thefieldofelectricpowerprotection.Wavelettransformconsistsofaset offamiliesthatdifferthaneachotherinthewaveletfunctionandscaling function,buttheyagreedinanalyzingthedatainbothtimescaleand frequencyscale. Inthisthesis,fourDWTsfamiliesareusedforprotectionoftwopower systemequipment(transmissionlinesandtransformers)andastudyhas beencarriedtoevaluatethemosteffectivefamilythatcanbeusedfor protectionoftheaboveequipment. ThepurposeofusingtheDWTanalysisfortransmissionlineprotection istodeterminethefaultlocationandfaulttype.While,theDWTanalysis isusedfortransformerprotectiontodiscriminatebetweentheinternal faultcurrentsandthemagnetizinginrushcurrentsintheprimarywinding attheinstanceoftransformerswitching.AhybridsystemofbothDWT andArtificialNeuralNetwork(ANN)isusedforthatpurposeduetothe greatabilityofANN todealwithclassificationsystems.Simulation resultsrevealedsatisfactoryperformanceoftheselectedDWTfamilyfor bothtransmissionlineprotectionandtransformerprotecon. |
