Abstract

- In this study , three new kinds of composite materials were improved the wear properties of the carbon fiber ( CF ) / epoxy composites by using micro cellulose with goal of studying the effect of natural fiber on high performance composite .The materials are pure epoxy , CF /epoxy composites with addition of 0 , 2 and 5 wt.% of MFC as natural nano-fiber .
- Epoxy composites materials was chosen to study the effect of motion parameters such as sliding velocity and applied load on the weight loss. The operation conditions were sliding velocities 9.8 , 12.8 , 16.8 and 25 m/s ; applied loads 10 , 45 , 60 and 77 N ; Sliding times 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and 5 minutes.
- Counterface materials are steel , aluminum and brass and its surface roughness are 2.2 μm, 1.5 μm & 0.6 μm and its hardness are 57, 90 & 94 vickers , respectively .
The experiments were carried out at room temperature .
from the study of the wear behaviour of the different epoxy composites , the following conclusions can be drawn :
1. The weight loss of pure epoxy is much higher than other composite materials regardless the sliding conditions .
2. Using micro fibers of cellulose to epoxy resin has high effect
in improving wear rate of composites as follows :
- Effect of addition carbon Fiber to pure epoxy is decreased wear by about 85% .
- Adding carbon fiber with 2% MFC to pure epoxy tends to decreasing wear by about 90% .
- Addition 0f carbon fiber with 5% MFC to pure epoxy tends to decreasing wear by about 93.4% .
