Abstract Organochlorine pesticides have been produced and used for agricultural purposes for a long time and on a large scale throughout the world because of exceptional insecticidal and fungicidal properties. Moreover, these chemicals tend to bio-concentrate and bio-magnify in the food chains, representing a variety of reproductive, carcinogenic, immunological, neurological and other adverse effects for both animals and humans. 1. Concentrations of Organochlorine pesticides: Three hundred and thirty three samples (111 each of liver, kidney and tongue) were collected on the day of slaughtering from 111 carcasses divided as (45 each of native breeds of male cattle, buffalo and 21 of camel carcasses). About 20 g of each liver, kidney and tongue tissues were collected directly after inspection at three slaughterhouses (Mansoura, Zagazig and Ismailia) in the period of October 2010 to June 2011. Samples were analyzed for the detection of DDTs, HCHs, dieldrin, aldrin, endrin, heptachlors, HCB and chlordane compounds. All the examined tissues were contaminated with different kinds of OCPs (HCHs, DDTs, CHLs, DRINs, HPTs and HCB) with varying concentrations. Tissue distribution |
