Abstract INTRODUCTION Tuberculin test is an important tool for diagnostic and epidemiological purposes. It is used as a measure for prevalence of tuberculous infection in the community. It is considered as a delayed hypersensitivity reaction t)’j)e IV to tuberculoprotein in patients \.\ith component cell mediated immunity. Steroid contraceptives containing estrogen and progesterone in >·ariab!e proportion were found to suppress experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in animals (Lenncr: and Bud. 1973) a disease thcught to be mediated by delayed h}’j)ersensithity reaction similar to tuberculin test. In 1979. Gerrersen er :zi. found increased reactivity to dinitrochlorobenzene skin :es: in women receiving injectable contraceptives (Depo-provera) and in those on combined oral contraceptive pills. In 1980, Gerrersen eta!. found no significant difference between women on either oral combined pills or injectable contraceptives and control group as regard the in-vitro lymphocyte proliferation in response to mitogens (PHA) and (CO:\-A). |
