Abstract

The present work was carried out in Vegetable Private Farm at Al-Blashon region, Belbies, Sahrkia Governorate during two successive winter seasons of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013, to study the effect of nitrogen source and its rates (calcium (CN) at 60, 80, 100 and 120 kg N/fad. and ammonium sulphate AS at 60, 80, 100 and 120 kg N/fad.) and potassium fertilization (potassium sulphate PS at 100,150 and 200 kg /fad.) as well as their interactions on growth, plant chemical composition, yield, nitrogen and potassium use efficiency, bulb quality and storability of garlic cv Balady under clay soil conditions using surface irrigation system. These treatments were arranged in a split plot in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Nitrogen source and its rates were randomly arranged in the main plots and potassium sulphate rates were randomly distributed in the sub-plots. The interaction between ammonium sulphate at 80 kg N/fad. and PS at 100 kg/fad. increased yield of grade 1, exportable yield and total yield/fad. as well as average bulb weight, whereas, the interaction between ammonium sulphate at 80kg N /fad. and potassium sulphate at 150 kg/fad. decreased weight loss percentage in bulbs during storage period. Fertilization of garlic with N at 60 kg/fad. As in the form of calcium nitrate or as form of ammonium sulphate recorded the maximum values of nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), while potassium sulphate at 100 kg/fad. increased potassium use efficiency (KUE) by garlic plants.
