Abstract

End stage renal disease is a threatening life disease in Egypt, one third of deaths in patients with renal disorders result from end stage renal disease. Hemodialysis is one of renal replacement therapies for end stage renal disease. It replaces some but not all of the kidneys functions. However, hemodialysis has many serious complications; it is still the most common method for treating end stage renal disease End- Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) is when the kidneys are no longer able to work at a level needed for day-to-day life. Dialysis care has increased importance throughout the world, because of the growing prevalence of patients receiving renal replacement therapy (RRT) and its related morbidity and mortality and high social and financial costs. There is limited prospective evidence analyzing the burden of dialysis modalities on HRQoL. Dialysis is a procedure that is performed routinely on persons who suffer from acute or chronic renal failure, or who have ESRD. The process involves removing waste substances and fluids from the blood that are normally eliminated by the kidneys. Dialysis may also be used for individuals who have been exposed to or ingested toxic substances to prevent renal failure from occurring.
