been done in sleep disorders in children over the
past •
The aim of the work is to give a full knowledge
about sleep pattern, behaviour and disorders in children

A description of sleep stages, norms and extremes
with explination of neurophysiologic, humoral and biochemical
regulation of sleep had been done by this work.
Classification of sleep disorders which is diagnostic
grouped sleep disorders into four major categories
• These include, Disorders of initiating and
maintaining sleep, Excessive day time sleepiness, Disorder
of sleep wake schedules, and Parasomnias •
The major sleep problems that can be seen in pediatric
practice include :

- Nightmares,
- Night terrors,
Sleeptalking,
Somnambulism,
Enuresis,
- Hypersomnia, Narcolepsy, Kleine-Lavin Syndrome,
Pickwickian syndrome, Kearns-Sayre syndrome,
Sleep apnea •
Insomnia,
Sleep associated airway problems, and
Sleep disturbances associated with systemic illness •
There are several systemic illness that may be
accompanied with sleep disturbances as asthmatic
attack, colic 1coronary disease, gastric hyperacidity
and drUg intoxication •

In addition to the above discussed sleep disturbances
seen in pediatric practice there are other dysfunctions
that are associated with sleep in children
as head banging, Bruxism, Nocturnal seizuries, Paroxysmal
sleep Dystonia, Sleep myoclonus, Sleep Pain and
sleep paralysis •
from this study, we are commend a diagnostic approach
and a strategies for managing sleep disorders •
