المستخلص

The environmentasl problems which face us today have now grown to the point that affects our very quality of life. There is increasing demand for a limited supply of natural resources used in the industry. In view of present global crises - population expansion, natural resource depletion and ecological disasters - there is an urgent need to align development and the practice of architecture with the concept of sustainability. Green architecture is one of these conceopts and it is not a style, trend nor a vernacular and neither is it new. So Green Architecture is a term used to describe economical, energy-saving, environmentally-friendly, sustainable development.
And the purpose of this research is to contribute to a better understanding of the concept of green building, its assessment tools and its role for achieving sustainable development through developing an effective green building rating system in Egypt in terms of the dimensions through which sustainable development tools are being produced and according to the local context. Developing such system is becoming necessary in the Developing World because of the considerable environmental, social and economical problems. Egypt as one of these countries is in need for this system, especially with poor resources and inefficient use. Therefore, this research studied internatiional green building assessment tools such as LEED, BREEAM, and others. Then through a comparative study, the research arrives to the items which repeated in most of the systems. These items will be the base for the assessing tool which we can use to assess the rating systems around the world and specially in Egypt. This in order to build a new assessment Tool respecting the local conditions of Egypt.
This research has been prepared and organized in the form of three consecutive chapters to help in understanding the concept of green architecture and its assessment tools in order to assess the Green Pyramid Rating System which is used in Egypt to be able to improve it to suitable the Egyptian conditions.
Chapter One: The Green Architecture and its assessment tools.
Which discusses the theoretical approach of the Green Architectuire, it’s concepts and in the last part of the chapter it discusses the introduction of the Green Architecture Assessment Tools.
Chapter Two: The proposed methodology for assessing The Green Buildings assessment tools.
Discussed some of the Green Architecture assessment tools around the world. Then it explain a comparison between them in order to contribute a better understanding of these tools.
Chapter Three: Assessing The Egyptian Green Pyramid Rating System According to the Proposed Methodology.
In this Chapter the research discusses the Green Architecture from the perspective of the Egyptian. Then it explain and analyze the Green POyramid Rating System (GPRS) showing its advantages and disadvantages in order to achieve a better tool to assessing Green Architecture in Egypt.
Final: Conclusion and Recommendation:
This explains the research’s conclusion and recommendation for future proceeding work in Green Architecture assessment tools.
