Abstract

The reaction of amino acids with M(II) salts (2:1 molar ratio) led to the formation of sixteen chelates. The reaction of L-lysine with (M(OAc)2.nH2O, (M = Cu(II), n = 1H2O; Ni(II), n = 4H2O; Co(II), n = 4H2O; Cd(II), n = 4H2O; Mn(II), n = 4H2O and Zn(II), n = 2H2O) in water (2L:1molar ratio), gave chelates (3), (4), (6), (8), (9) and (10) respectively. The reaction of L1H with CuCl2.2H2O, in water (2L : 1M) gaves chelate (1), while the reaction of L-lysine with CuSO4 .5H2O, in water (2L:1M) gave afforded yielded chelate (2), L-lysine reacted with MgO in water (2L:1M) giving chelate (11), The reaction of L-lysine and urea with Ni(OAc)2.4H2O in water (1L1H:1L2:1M) giving chelate (5), and the reaction of L-lysine and L-histidine with Co(OAc)2.4H2O in water (1L:1L: 2M) giving chelate (7), The reaction of L-lysine and urea with Ni(OAc)2.4H2O in water (1L:1L:1M) giving chelate (12), The reaction of L-glutamic with Co(OAc)2 .4H2O, in water (2L:1M) giving chelate (13), and the reaction of L-cysteine with Co(OAc)2 .4H2O, in water (2L:1M) giving chelate (14), while, L-cysteine reacted with CuO, in water (2L:1M) giving chelate (15) and the reaction of amino acid hydrolyzate with CuO, in water (2L:1M) giving chelates (16). These chelates had been studied using analytical techniques and evaluated as foliar fertilizer. The electronic spectral data confirmed octahedral structures for The chelates. The ESR spectra for Cu(II) chelates show axial type (dx 2-y 2) ground state with covalent bond character. For application as foliar fertilizer The synthesized metal chelates were evaluated as plant growth promoter. Results indicated that the growth criteria like plant height and number of branches per plant were improved by increasing dose of the organically chelated amino acid metal nutrient to a concentration of 2.5%. At this concentration the plants recorded the maximum height (110 cm), while plant recorded lower height (97.7 cm) when the micronutrient chelate was foliarly applied the plant at 2.0 % concentration. The yield per plant was maximum (112 gm) with the spray of 2.5 % of chelated amino acid metal nutrients.
