Abstract

from the present study, it was concluded that:
For proximal complications of VP shunt, MSCT brain provides an important role in its demonstration and can detect most proximal complications including obstruction, malposition, overdrainage, intraventricular hemorrhage and shunt migration. Moreover, contrast enhanced MSCT brain examination is essential in diagnosis of ventriculitis and brain abscess secondary to VP shunt.
For distal complications of VP shunt, MSCT abdomen examination plays an important in its demonstration, especially in cases of abdominal pseudocysts, it provides its accurate size, site and relations, and this is achieved through its axial sections, in addition to sagittal and coronal reconstructions. Also in cases of CSF ascites, CT abdomen examination detects its amount and excludes other organs diseases.
