Abstract
Immunofluorescent studies have revealed three antibodies associated with liver
diseases:anti-nuclear antibod;y (A,N.A), anti-mitochondrial antibod;y (M.A.)and anti-smooth muscle
antibody.(S.M.A,).
As the pattern of chronic liver diseases in Egypt varies from that in western countries, our aim is
to study the incidence of these tissue autoantibodies among
Egyptians having chronic liver diseases (including hepatic Schistosomiasis)in a comparison with
normal subjects, in order to clarify the role of autoimmunity in the patho genesis of these
diseases.
