Abstract

This study aimed to throw the light on the effect of sterilization on cats and the most important surgical methods used for sterilization of the cats and the effect of sterilization on the behavior of the cats. In the present study composed of 50 cats related to breeds of (Siamese, Persian, angora and Native breeds). They were collected from different locations in Alexandria city. Veterinary medicine province , the clinic at the Faculty of veterinary medicine-Alexandria University and some from the private clinic and animal health centers at Alex. All cases were subjected to through clinical examinations including inspissations, pulse rate palpation and body temperature, blood works with special examination palpation of the affected organs beside case history for any trauma, accidents and contusions. For anaesethia we used (telazol) and if the operation will take along time we will complete with (Isofluran). In healthy cats, an initial TELAZOL dosage 10.6-12.5mg/kg) is recommended for such procedures. The cats operation were 20 cats ovariectomy and 30 cats make to it Ovariohysterectomy. The results of sterilization indicated that:- 1- The total number of cats about 50 cat. The Siamese cat constituted about (26 %), Persian cats (30 %), Angora (24 %) and native cats reached to (20 %). 2- The number of cats that operated by Ovariohysterectomy (60 %) , while, those undergoe ovariectomy reached to (40 %) from the total number of sterilized cats. - The results indicated that, the cats sterilized either by ovariectomy or Ovariohysterectomy operations were a live and no death cats observed during and after operation of sterilization. 3 - The results cleared that, the best method for sterilization was the Ovariohysterectomy and preferred than the ovariectomy to avoid the uterine diseases as pyometra.4- The results of the effect of cat sterilization on hormone level before and after operation indicated that,, the progesterone and estrogen levels decreased after sterilization than that before sterilization and this attributed to the removal of ovaries.
