Abstract This thesis is devoted to the phytochemical study of the leaves and stems of Clerodendrum splendens G. Don growing in West Africa, biological study of the different extracts and some of the isolated compounds as well as botanical study of the leaves and stems of the plant to confirm its reclassification. The thesis is divided into 3 parts:- Part I: Phytochemical Investigation of leaves and stems of Clerodendrum splendens G. Don This part includes 4 chapters - Chapter I: Preliminary phytochemical screening and proximate analysis - Chapter II: Phyochemical investigation of n-hexane extract - Chapter III: Phyochemical investigation of chloroform extract - Chapter IV: Phyochemical investigation of EtOAc extract -Chapter V: Phyochemical investigation of n-butanol extract Part II: Biological study of different extracts and some of the isolated compounds This part includes: 1-ABTS antioxidant assay 2-Total phenolic determination assay 3-Cytotoxicity assay Part III: Botanical study of the leaf and stem of Clerodendrum splendens G. Don This part includes macro- and micro-morphological investigation of the leaf and stem of clerodendrum splendens G. Don was carried out to study the plant in both entire and powdered form and confirm its reclassification. |
