Abstract

The present work deals with the study of the ecology and economic potentialities of Senecio glaucus growing naturally in the Nile Delta region of Egypt .The area chosen for the present study is located in the northern part of the Nile Delta region of Egypt which covers the north and middle borders of four Governorates namely: Damietta, El-Dakahlia, Kafr El-Sheikh and El-Behira. The result of the present study indicated that, the total number of the recorded plant species is 139 species belonging to 106 genera and related to 33 families. These recorded species include 59 perennialsspecies, 3 biennialsspecies and 77 annualsspecies. According to the life - form spectra, the majority of the recorded species are therophytes. The floristic analysis of the study area revealed that, 84 species (60.43 %) of the total number of recorded species are Mediterranean taxa. The vegetationanalysisof the study arealed to the recognition of 4 vegetation group. . Group A dominated by Cynodon dactylon ,Group B dominated by Phragmites australis , Group C codominated by Halocnemum strobilaceumand Senecio glaucus. Group D codominated by Rumex pictusand Senecio glaucus . The estimation of the moisture content, dry matter, total ash content, crude lipid content, crude fiber content, total nitrogen and phosphorus content, crude protein, total soluble sugar, glucose, sucrose and polysaccharides of plant are determined. The elementary analysis (macro and microelement) were also carried out. The quantitative of the secondary chemical constituents e.g phenols, tannins, alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids were also determined. Silver nanoparticles (AgNp) were synthesized using Senecio glaucus extract as reducing and stabilizing agent are reported and evaluated for antibacterial activity against drug resistance for bacterial isolates.Theallelopathic bioassay of Senecio glaucus was investigated by studying the phytotoxic effects of their roots and stems methanolic extracts on germination and seedling development (shoot and root) of the Lactuca sativa and Echinochloa crus-galli.
