Abstract The l e s s e r grain borer beetle, Rhizowertha dominica E’abricius, is the most voracious and destructive pest of twenty kinds of grains and t h e i r products, most frequently on wheat, barely and r i c e . It is also noted damaging onion bulbs, the wood of post8 i n s t o r e houses (Asanov, 1970). The continued massive and indiscriminate use of p e s t i c i d e s has a l w a y s been accompained by adverse e f f e c t s created a multitude of problems. Among these a r e , p e s t i c i d e residue, development of resistance to i n s e c t i c i d e , toxic hazards to rmn and animals and disruption of natural balance between the insect pests and t h e i r nhtural enemies. The research e f f o r t s gave b i r t h to number of new approtlches to combat i n s e c t s i n f e s t i n g stored nroducts. Among these approaches is the so-called s t e r i l i z a t i o n by i r r a d i a t i o n . However, t h e r e a r e many problems asaociated with the use of t h i s method on large scale np?lication. One of these problems is to determine tha nin~mum dosage of r a d i a t i o n needed to control the t a r g e t i n s e c t and a t the same time |
