Abstract Enterotoxaemia disease in weaned rabbit caused by C. perfringens type A which secret alpha toxin cause severe bloat associated with offensive odor, doughy brownish to bloody stained diarrhea and then sudden death. A vaccine was produced from a locally isolated toxigenic strains of C.perfringens type A under name of “Rabbit Clostridial enterotoxaemia bloat vaccine”. Vaccine gave active immunity in older rabbits and passive immunity to the newborns via maternal antibodies and colostrum. Maternal immunization has been used successfully in dam’s at different periods(breeding, pregnancy and parturition) and in offspring at different age by measurement of antitoxin titer by SNT, Haemolytic inhibition assay and ELISA . The results show a specific antibody response to C.perfringens type A in dam’s and increase levels of antibodies in sera of offspring (kits) of vaccinated dam’s. Vaccine in adult rabbit gave good protection against the disease for 5 month ,so rabbit could be vaccinated after five month from primary vaccination , also revaccinate the dam’s at every pregnancy period and offspring could be vaccinated after weaning (4-6 week). |
