Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific syndrome of unknown etiology and considered as the major cause of maternal, fetal & neonatal mortality and morbidity, it’s a multi systemic disorder and clinical condition characterized by hypertension and proteinurea.
preeclampsia can be classified according to its degree into:
Mild preeclampsia in which Blood pressure ≥ 140/ 90 with protein > 300 mg in urine in 24 h urine sample collection.
Sever preeclampsia blood pressure > 160/ 110 with protein > 5 gm in urine in 24 h urine sample collection. Associated with additional symptoms like epigasthic pain and impaired liver functions when the case develops seizures It called eclampsia.
The aim of the present work was to study the relation between frequency of intercourse and incidence of preeclampsia.
The present study was carried into four groups of pregnant women. group I: 50 cases of mild preeclampsia, group II: 50 cases of sever preeclampsia, group III 25 cases of eclampsia and group IV: 200 case of normal pregnancy not suffering from DM, hypertension or renal disease.
The study was case control design and carried out on cases fulfilled the criteria who attended the antenatal care clinic and preeclampsia unit in El-Shatby maternity university hospital. Data were collected through predesigned schedule, which includes; age of the patient, occupation of husband, monthly income, duration of marriage, date of last menstrual period, contraceptive use before pregnancy, condom use before pregnancy, periods of non sexual exposure and frequency of intercourse per week.
