This problem emerges from the fact of concerning with cognitive aspects, particularly for mentally retarded children. Cognitive approaches considers one of the most important concepts and terms tightly associated with children, particularly those mentally disabled, in order to identify the traits of the used styles with those children which help determining the appropriate approaches could be used with this category. *Study Objectives: • The study drives at: o Exploring the differences between mild and moderate mentally disabled children. o Explore the cognitive styles used with males in the two categories. o Explore the cognitive styles used with females in the two categories. • Study Significance: This current study acquires its significance from the nature of the topic the research is handling between the mild and moderate mentally disabled children. • The Theoretical significance: It is represented in rare of studies tackle with cognitive styles of children in general and mentally disabled children in particular, in addition to discussing differences between the two categories of children. • The Applied Significance: Shedding light on nature of the styles the mentally disabled children use, in order to design the appropriate programs that suit each category’s understanding. • Study Method: The current study uses the qualitative comparative method. • Study Sample: It consists of (47) mentally disabled children of (mild/moderate) categories, aged from (8-12) year olds and IQ (52-68) for the mild category while (36-51) regarding the moderate one. Adjusting Behavior Test, by Dr. Safwat Farag. 4. IQStanford Binet Scale. • Results 1. There are significant statistical differences between average scores of the mild mentally retarded group and the moderate mentally retarded group regarding the scale of the included shapes. 2. There are significant statistical differences at (0.05) level between average scores of the mild mentally retarded group and the moderate mentally retarded group regarding the scale of the familiar shapes, in favor of the mild retardation category. 3. There are significant statistical differences at (0.05) level between average scores of the male group rather than the female group, regarding the scale of the included shapes, in favor of the females in the total sample. 4. There are no significant statistical differences between males and females regarding the scale of the familiar shapes, in the total sample 5. There are significant statistical differences at (0.05) level between average scores of the male group rather than the female group, regarding the scale of the included shapes, in favor of the moderate mentally retarded group. 6.
