Abstract Chemical investigation of (Ocimum basilicum L.) resulted the identification of compounds resulted from petroleum ether extract and diethyl ether extract by using GC/MS. Isolation and identification of twelve phenolic compounds which were identified as p-hydroxy benzoic acid ferulic acid gallic acid, p-qumaric acid,, benzoic acid, kaempferol, catechin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, cinnamic acid, ellagic acid by using HPLC and Colum chromatography. themethanolic extract was tested against two human cell line[(HCT116 colon carcinoma cell line) and ( HEPG2 liver carcinoma cell line)]. The chemical composition and the antimicrobial activities of the volatile oil of Ocimum basilicum L. (Lamiaceae).Forty twovolatile compounds from Egyptian Ocimum basilicumL were identified by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It was found that the major component Linalool represent 33.9% of the oil constituent. Antimicrobial activities were studied against three bacterial strainsEscherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureous and Bacillus Cereus, and three fungal species,Aspergillusniger ,Candida albicansand Saccharomyces Cerevisial at two different concentrations of oil extract(100 µL) and (200 µL) .The volatile oil had a good inhibitory effect for all bacterial and fungal species. |
