Abstract

General.
The study was conducted in 145 patients who were studied and
managed for amblyopia.
· Of the 145 patients; 74 were females and 71 patients were males.
· The age incidence was between 36 and 180 months.
A full history was taken from every case and followed by
complete orthoptic examination including:
1) Visual acuity measurement before and after correction
on Landolt’s chart.
2) Refraction under eyeopentolate 1 o/o.
3) Fixation to determine the type of fixation, as being
central, unsteadv central, or eccentric. -
4) Fundus examination to exclude any organic lesions.
5) Post mydriatic test was given for estimating the possible
maximum visual acuity which can be attained.
6) Glasses are prescribed and used at least two months
before treatment.
7) The patients were divided into three groups:
Group 1.:Consisting of the --!S patients were treated only on CA.\1
vision stimulator, twice a week for a session lasting 7-10
minutes. If no response was achieved after five sessions,
treatment was discontinued.
Group II.:
Consisting of 45 patients were treated by conventional
occlusion of the sound eye. Most improvement occurred
during the first three months of treatment. Improvement
after that was marginal so treatment was discontinued.
Group III.:
Consisting of 50 patients were treated by conventional
occlusion accompanied bv CAM treatment.
· In each Group the patients were classified according to:
i)Type of amblyopia:
-Anisometropic
-Strabismic
-Strabismic-anisometropic.
ii)Type of fixation:
-Central
-Unsteady central
-Eccentric
iii) Type of error of refraction:
-Hypermetropic anisometropia
-Mvopic anisometropia
-Mixed anisometropia
-Astigmatism (simple, compound hypermetropic, and
mixed).
