Abstract

1.1. Vegetative stage: 1.1.1 Effect of bio-regulator treatments: Foliar application of different applied growth bio-regulating treatments, with different concentrations, significantly increased all growth criteria compared with the control treatment. Tallest plants were obtained by foliar application of tryptophan at 50 mgl-1 concentration. While, foliar spraying of ascorbic acid at 100 mgl-1 concentration was most effective in number of tillers and leaves per plant, fresh and dry weight of plant at vegetative stage during the two growth seasons and the combined data. Growth characters were significantly decreased with increasing concentration of foliar application of tryptophan and thiamine from 50 to 100 mgl-1 and yeast extract from 1000 to 2000 mgl-1 at the two seasons and their combined data for different growth stages. In the other side the characters of growth weresignificantly increased with increasing foliar application of cysteine concentration from 100 to 150 mgl-1 and ascorbic acid from 50 to 100 mgl-1 1.1.2. Varietal differences: Results revealed that differences between studied varieties, with respect to the above mentioned growth characters were significant at the same physiological stage in the two growth seasons and the combined data. Growth characters, except number of tillers and leaves per plant which highly increased in Gemiza-9 variety, Gemiza-7 variety was superior in most growth characters. There were no significant differences between Gemiza-7 and Sakha-93 varieties in number of tillers and leaves per plant, except number of leaves per plant in the second season, and between Sakha-93 and Gemiza-9 in dry weight of plant during this physiological period in two successive growing seasons and their combined data . 1.1.3. Effect of interaction: There was a significant increases effect on all growth characters under study in both seasons and combined data. Foliar spraying of ascorbic acid at 100 mgl-1 and sown Gemiza-7 variety recorded tallest plants in the first season and combined data. While, foliar application of tryptophan at 50 mgl-1 was obtained highest values in the second season with the same variety. Except number of leaves in the first season, foliar spraying of ascorbic acid at 100 mgl-1 and sown Gemiza-9 variety recorded highest number of tillers and leaves per plant. Also, foliar application of ascorbic acid at 100 mgl-1 was more effective in fresh and dry weight of plant during two growth seasons and combined data and sown Gemiza-7 variety.
