Abstract The work carried out in the present thesis is based on preparation, characterization and applications of some modified resins such as: poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid) P(AAm-AA), poly(hydroxamic acid-acrylic acid) P(HA-AA) and poly(dithio-carbamate-acrylic acid) P(DTC-AA) resins. Poly(acrylamide-acrylic acid) P(AAm-AA) as a polymeric resin was prepared by gamma radiation-initiated copolymer-rization of acrylamide-acrylic acid monomers in the presence of N,N’-methylene bisacrylamide (NMBA) as a crosslinker. It was studied at different experimental conditions such as: comonomer composition, comonomer concentration, crosslinker, and radiation doses. In this study, poly(hydroxamic acid-acrylic acid) P(HA-AA) and poly(dithiocarbamate-acrylic acid) P(DTC-AA) resins were prepared from the conversion of amide group in P(AAm-AA) by hydroxylamine hydrochloride and by the nucleophilic addition of carbon disulphide in an alkaline medium, respectively. The functional groups on the prepared polymeric resins were confirmed by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), differential scanning calori-metry (DSC) measurements, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed to evaluate the properties of the prepared polymeric resins. |
