Abstract In the present work we used Human foetuses duri~ng different periods of gestation, ranging from 2% month to full term. The age of the foetus was approximately determined either by its length or by the number of Hissed periods. All adrenal were removed fresh pest mortum and paraffin sections were prepared. Then the following stains were used. Hx. 8 E. Mallory Azan stain. Wilder reticular stain. Periodic acid schiff. Ammoniacal silver nitrate intensification of chromaffin reaction. The present work showed that the microscopic picture of the Human foetal suprarenal gland differ from the appearance of that of the adult gland. At the age of 2% month the gland was defined, large in size and formed of : True cortex : Outer thin zone of cells. FoetaJ. cortext Inne% wide zone which constituted about 80 % of the whole cortex. Immigrating sympathochromaffin cells. In the early months of gestation the foetal cortex formed of large polygonal cells with acidophilic cytopl:3.sm and large vesicular nuclei. At the ~~ month of prenatal life degenerative changes in the form of vacuolation started to appear in the foetal cortex. At the s1h and 9~h month the degenerative changes became massive in the form of Haemor~h~e~ necrosis and vacuolation. The permanent cortex in the ~ anQ }rd months was a subcapsular thin zone of packed cellSl While in the last two months of gestation its cells became less packed, with distinct outlines. Prolefiration of the inner layers of the permane.nt cortex occured to replace the degenerating cells of the foetal cortex. The foetal suprarenal gland was invaded by immigrating sympathochromaffin cells in the form of Islands inbetween the cells of the foetal cortex. Tl1e immigration was very active during the 4!h month, while at the &th and ~!~ months the cells tend to be arranged in groups around the central blood spaces.dal:’k nuclei 1 frequently found with rterve fibers and arranged in rosette shape. These cells v1ill form the future neuroblast. - Few larger irregularly shaped cells which gave positive chromaffirte reaction at the 6th month. The framework of the gland in the early months of prenatal life was formed of very thin connective tissue capsule 1 from which no trabeculae were arose. Later during the foetal life the COlli’ective tissue capsule became more thickned, formad mainly of colJ.agenous and Reticular fibers, also connective tissue trabeculae were extended into the substance of the gland. |
