Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of primary liver cancer accounting for 7.5% and 3.5 % of all cancers among men and women respectively. The disease is associated with environmental exposure to hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus. Cirrhosis is the most common association of HCC, being the underlying disease in 80%-90% of patients with primary liver cancer in most countries. Its high prevalence in Egypt is mainly due to the incidence of hepatitis C viral infection this is due to the mass anti-belharzial campaign therapy. |
