Abstract

High resolution laser spectroscopy is a very important field. It has very important applications in different areas of applied research such as identi- fication of trace elements, metrology, pollution and meteorology. Applications in these areas and others usually require excitation of specific energy levels. These processes, in turn require accurate measurements of wavelengths and bandwidths of pumping sources
.
The purpose of this work is to develop an accurate technique for the measurement and analysis of very narrow bandwidth sources, and to apply the technique for measurements of bandwidths of a conti- nuous laser beam (He-Ne laser) and a pulsed laser
-
(N2 laser pumped dye laser). A detailed analysis of the spectrum has pointed out a few misassignments in the earlier work of Dieke and Heath 1959. The
Fabry-Perot etalon interfere used as an extremely powerful tool in different spectroscopic applications requiring a combination of high resolution and high throughput (Prikryl 1974).
