Abstract
The first chapter reviews the reactions of amino sugars with B-dicarbonyl compounds as well as the chemis- try of Chapter II is a discussion of the work carried out by the candidate which consists of two parts. In the first part, candidate succeeded in the synthesis of a new heterocyclic hydrazine namely, 5-(D-arabino-tetrahydroxy- butyl)-2-methyl-3-pyrroy lhydrazine (I). It was allowed со react with different aromatic aldehydes to give the corresponding N-15-(D-arabino-tetrahydroxybutyl)-2-methyl- 3-pyrroyl Jarylaldehyde hydrazones (II). Destructive oxi- dation of the polyhydroxyalkyl chain of these hydrazones (II) was achieved by the use of sodium metaperiodate to afford the corresponding N-(5-formy1-2-methyl-3-pyrroyl)- arylaldehyde hydrazones (III). Their structures were con- firmed by condensation reaction with different acyl- hydrazines to afford the corresponding mixed bis (hydrazones) (IV 4-oxo-4,5,6,7- tetrahydroindoles.
