Abstract
The concept is to cast the light on the disabled status and their basic needs for living which is definitely one of the most important and most serious contemporary issues to the international community as well as it is on local level. Basically at Palestine and Gaza Strip, specifically at Rafah (the study area). This study discusses the conditions of the disabled of Physical impairment category in Rafah , where their numbers are increasing daily, especially when it comes to children and young people for many reasons ,mainly the continuous confrontation of the Conflicts in the region till this moment. The percentage of Physical impairment according to the report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics was 2.6% of the total indigenous population of the Gaza Strip. the focus of the study is on Physical impairment at Rafah and how to acclimatize residential buildings where the Physical impairment disabled live to adequate his daily activities and life style therein. The study has been prepared under the title: Rehabilitation of Residential buildings For The Physically Disabled in Rafah, Palestine: Universal Design Approach. The study aims to emphasize the best methods that facilitate the involvement of physically impairment disabled also dealing with the residential building where he lives and this cannot be performed except through two correlative stages: First Stage : Study the reality status of the physically impairment disabled inside architectural vacuum of residential building where he lives and the difficulties he faces in the cohabitation with such voids. Second stage: The rehabilitation of the interior spaces of the building to suit residential and adequate with the needs of the disabled to be able to move without the help of those around. The study entirety consists of Six Chapters including steps and methods how to rehabilitate the space at residential building to fit with a physically impairment disabled inside the architect. The first chapter of the study deals with the definition of the problem and identification of the research objective as well as the study methodology and analysis concerned. And deals with the types of physical impairment disabilities ,its definition and the clarification of its types and causes, as well as problems related to physical impairment disabilities. While the second chapter addresses the definition of architectural rehabilitation of residential buildings and its relation with the physical impairment disabled and architectural vacuum concerning the residents of Rafah. The third chapter aims to simulate the theory Universal Design and analytical study of the rules and tactics with an analytical study of some of the models and how to apply the theory and its implementation. And the fourth Chapter scopes the study area Rafah governate and clarifies the statistical data that have been obtained from the practical report carried out by the researcher to study multiple areas in the governate. Chapter five aims to provide the basics and summarize needs and architecture methods envisaged by the researcher for the rehabilitation of architectural vacuum in residential buildings to fit and be compatible with physical impairment disabilities and adequate with his abilities and physical cohabitation with it.
