Abstract

Dental care is a field of high priority regarding the risk of infections. Lack of proper procedures of infection control can pose serious threats among patients and DHCP by contact with blood, oral and respiratory secretions, or contaminated equipment.
The study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of dentists working in MOH clinics regarding infection control measures and to assess availability of different infection control items in MOH clinics.
There are 15 hospitals, 20 centers, and 85 units distributed along the seven districts of Alexandria with an approximate ratio of 1: 1: 4 in each district. Thus, from each district, one center, one hospital and four medical units were randomly selected from the main list, which was obtained from the Directorate of Health Affairs in Alexandria. Theoretically, a total of 7 medical centers, 7 hospitals and 28 medical units were to be included in the study. However, only 6 hospitals, 7 medical centers and 28 medical units were accessible for the researcher to visit. All available dentists working in those facilities were approached constituting a total sample of 215 dentists.
Approval of all the concerned authorities was obtained then formal letters were directed to the seven health districts in order to secure their consent and support for the conduction of the study Permissions to access all the hospitals, centers and units of MOH were then secured from each district also through formal letters.
A self-administered questionnaire was designed for dentists which included four sections:
The first section was concerned with demographic and personal data. Number of injuries the previous year, vaccination status of the surveyed dentists and sources of information about infection control were also assessed at this section.
