Abstract Breastfeeding benefits, both infant and maternal health. When delivery takes place by cesarean section, the mother becomes a surgical patient with all the inherent risks and problems that may interfere with breastfeeding. The aim of this study was to explore breast symptoms and the influencing factors in the postpartum breast feeding women after cesarean section delivery. Materials and methods: cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 200 puerperal women. Four tools were used for data collection; an interview questionnaire consists of three parts, a modified form of postpartum stress scale, a structured follow up record collected at the end of the first week and Scale for measuring the breast symptoms in breastfeeding women (BBSS). The field work lasted from first of February 2013 to the end of October 20l3. Results: 67.5% of the sample exposed to breast symptoms which was significant with factors such as age, parity, in adequate preparedness to breastfeeding during pregnancy, delayed initiation, technique of breastfeeding and postpartum stress. Conclusion: it was found that breast symptoms were affected by most of the studied factors. Recommendations: these factors should be considered when planning programs designed to promote breastfeeding. |
