Abstract

Over several decades, the number of porcelain materials has increased extremely in the market. Several studies have been performed in order to evaluate mechanical and physical properties of those materials. Since esthetic represents an important factor for the current society, optical properties like translucency of porcelain materials is the object of a large number of publications in the literature. Dental materials manufacturers have invested great effort to come up with new materials that combines esthetic and strength. Although several studies have been performed to compare translucency among porcelain materials, no studies comparing the pressable lithium disilicate high translucent ceramic and translusent zirconia indicated for porcelain full and partial crown were found in the literature. In this study the translucency of different types of ceramic systems and the effect of two different resin cement shade were evaluated.
Twenty sound freshly extracted human permanent molars of both arches were selected. The occlusal surfaces of the teeth were reduced on a bench trimmer; under water cooling system, to a depth of 1.5 mm apical to the deepest occlusal pit.
A total of twenty specimens fabricated for this study. These specimens were divided into two main groups according to the type of the ceramic material used; ten specimens each as follows:
Group I: Ten specimens of InCoris TZI
Group II: Ten specimens of IPS e.max press HT
Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups, five specimens each, according to the cement shade used.
Group I: Ten specimens of InCoris TZI were subdivided into;
Subgroup A: Five specimens of InCoris TZI cemented to five prepared molars with Variolink II translucent.
Subgroup B: Five specimens of InCoris TZI cemented to five prepared molars with Variolink II A4.
Group II: Ten specimens of IPS e.max press HT were divided into;
Subgroup C: Five specimens of IPS e.max press HT cemented to five prepared molars with Variolink II translucent.
