Abstract

Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is severe acute disease of 3–6-week-old birds is associated with high mortality, but a less acute or subclinical disease is common in 0–3-week-old birds. IBD virus (IBDV) causes lymphoid depletion of the bursa, and if this occurs in the first 2 weeks of life, significant depression of the humoral antibody response may result.
In the present study, ten bursal samples were collected from Kafrelsheikh governorate from farms with clinical signs and lesions that were characteristic of gumboro infection and analyzed for presence and determination the genotype of IBDv. Eight groups were identified positive for IBDvs on the basis of the partial amplification of VP2 by RT-PCR and Ct obtained by real time PCR. The nucleotide sequences determined had been compared to each other and to the published sequence of Egyptian strains.
