Abstract This work deals with the synthesis of many heterocyclic compounds which are derived from naturally occurring Khellin. The antitumor activity of the newly synthesized compounds is also screened. The naturally occurring (4,9-dimethoxy-7-methyl-5-H-furo[3,2-g] chromen-5-one)”Khellin”(1) upon hydrolysis with aqueous potassium hydroxide afforded the corresponding (1-(6-hydroxy-4,7-dimethoxy benzofuran-5-yl)ethanone) ”Khellinone” (2) which via Vilsmeier-Haack reaction give the corresponding 4,9-dimethoxy-5-oxo-5H-furo[3,2-g] chromen-6-carboxaldehyde (3). |
