Abstract Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality it is the seventh most common cancer world wide and the third leading cause of cancer related death Its prognosis is poor and early detection is of utmost importance. AFP has been used as a serum marker for HCC for many years. AFP levels may be normal in up to 40% of patients with HCC. Elevated AFP levels may be seen in patients with cirrhosis or exacerbation of chronic hepatitis. |
