Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers that affect a woman’s reproductive organs. It is cancer in the cervix, the lower, narrow part of the uterus (womb). Human Papilloma virus (HPV) infection is a well-established cause of cervical cancer. Cancer cervix is a preventable disease and a key aspect of its prevention is preventing infection by the human Papilloma virus vaccine and screening for abnormal precancerous cell development at an early age. Prevention and control of cervical cancer aims to reduce its complications, physical, social, psychological and economic burden on the governorate. So, the community must be aware of the disease, its transmission, causes, risk factors and how to prevent it as a preventable disease. Community health nurses form the backbone for informing the community about cervical cancer as a preventable disease that has a serious effect on public health. Nurses are both the largest professionalhealth group and the frontline of patient care. They play unique roles as educators, supporters to the general population in primary healthcare settings and provide care for patients, especially community health nurse at maternal and child health center (MCH) as she contacts a large number of the women who are high risk groups for cervical cancer.
