Abstract

This work was done in Forensic Medicine and Clinical toxicology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Beni sueif University during the period between January 2012 to October 2013. 100 student (50) from each school were chosen their age range between 15-19 (17± 2) years were chosen too detect the most common abused substances in their urine by urine analysis.
The work included detection of commonly abused substance e.g cannabis, tramadol, benzodiazepine, parkinol, flurest in urine samples Schools’ students. The students are divided into two groups’ secondary school and electrical school.
Number of students were 100, where 50 students for each school. Color test, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used in detection of these substances.
The analysis detection was focused to detect 5 of the most common abused substance. They are cannabis, tramadol, benzodiazepine, parkinol and flurest.
The color test which used for detection of the studied drugs, are not specific, so a combination of TLC and color reactions have been to identify various substances.
Thin layer chromatography used for detection and separation of the drugs, while qualitative and quantitative screening of the examined samples were confirmed using high performance liquid chromatography.
The present study shows that about (35%) of students tried substance abuse.
Our present study found that cannabis is the most common substance abuse among students; the majority of cases are cannabis 25 student: (71.4 %) of positive cases are cannabis abusers.
Our study found that tramadol are common among students and comes in the second level after cannabis.
Rural area has been found to have more number of drug abusers than urban area.
There were a positive relationship between drug abuse and educational level.
There were a positive relationship between high daily pocket money and drug abuse.
The present study reveals that the electrical school students are substances abusers (40%) more than students in general secondary school (30%).
