Abstract

Generating virtualactorsisoneofthemostchallengingfieldsincomputergraphics.Re-
construction ofarealisticvirtualactorhasbeenpaidattentionbyacademicresearchersand
the cinemaindustrytogenerateahuman-likevirtualactor.Severalmovieswereactedby
human-likevirtualactors,wheretheaudiencecannotdistinguishbetweenrealandvirtual
actors. Therearemanyapplicationsofthevirtualactorsinthecinemaindustryandadver-
tisement. Thesynthesisofrealisticvirtualactorsisconsideredacomplexprocessbecause
of thecomplexityofgeneratingarealisticvirtualanimatedhead,body,hair,andclothes.
Manytechniquesareusedtogeneratearealisticvirtualactor;however,theyusuallyrequire
expensivehardwareequipment.Inthiswork,alow-costsystemthatgeneratesarealistic
virtual actorispresented.Thefacialfeaturesoftherealactorareblendedtoavirtualhead
that isattachedtotheactorsbody.Thepresentedsystemrequiresonlyonecamerathat
records thescene.Forblendingtherealfacialfeaturesoftheactorwiththevirtualhead,a
newimageblendingtechniqueispresented.Theproposedimageblendingtechniquepro-
duces realisticresultsthatarebetterthanresultsofothercloningtechniques.Themain
contributionsoftheproposedworkaresummarizedasfollows:
1- Alow-costsystemforgeneratingrealisticvirtualactorusingasingledigitalcamera.
This systemcontributesinbringingdownthecostofthecinemaindustry.
2- Animageblendingtechniqueforcompositingtwoimagesinanaturallook.
3- Afastvideocompletionsystemforremovingunwantedobjectsfromvideos.
Comparing withexistingtechniquesandsystems,theproposedsystemisconsidereda
low-costsystem.Forevaluatingtherealismoftheresultsthatwereproducedbythepro-
posed system,Anonlinequestionnairewasused.Theresultofthequestionnaireshowsthat
the resultsoftheproposedsystemareacceptedby64%.Thegeneratedvirtualactorsofthe
proposed systemcanbeusedinmanyapplications,suchas:changingfeaturesofactors,
dubbing, aging,facereplacement,creatingavatarsofactors,changingtheactor’sheadand
hair style,andbringingunavailableactorsinthecinemaindustry.
