Abstract The work was carried out in the present thesis was based on the preparation of polyacrylamide /multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PAAm/MWCNTs) by different techniques. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized and used for the removal of some metal ions and radioactive isotopes. PAAm/MWCNTs composites were prepared by polymerization of acrylamide (AAm) on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), copolymerization of AAm and acrylic acid (AA) on MWCNTs and template polymerization of AAm and AA on PAAm in the presence of MWCNTs. The reaction of PAAm with MWCNTs by (grafting to) method was studied. The functional groups on the prepared nanocomposites were confirmed by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were performed to evaluate the properties of the prepared nanocomposites. The prepared nanocomposites were used for studying the adsorption of Cu2+ metal ions and radioisotopes of Co2+ and Eu3+ from their aqueous solutions under different conditions. |
