Abstract

The present study was carried out to assess the effect of type 2 diabetes
mellitus on bone by comparing the BMD in men with and without type 2
diabetes mellitus in the same age group using radiometric (PMI
measurement) and densitometric measurements (density measurement of the
mandible at premolar area) of digital panoramic radiograph and density
measurement of DEXA at lumbar spine (L2-L4) and femoral neck.
The study subjects were selected from patients attending out-patient
clinics, University Hospital, Internal Medicine department, Faculty of
Medicine, Tanta University with age range from 35 to 50 years.
All of the study subjects had blood sampling between 8:30 am and 9:30
am after a minimum 8 hours of fasting, in order to determine FPG levels.
HBA1c levels were measured for the diabetic subjects only.
Study groups were divided into two groups:
Group 1 (Control group): twenty non-diabetic subjects.
Group 2 (Diabetic group): twenty subjects with type 2 diabetes.
